HOW YOU CAN HELP?

The most important thing our dogs lack, apart of course from a new home, is more human contact.

If you could spare a little time to take dogs for a walk it would be of more benefit than just the time you have given.

It provides a dog with important one to one time, and is an opportunity for us to find out more about the dogs, such things as if they pull on a lead . How they react to children and other adults and other dogs.

We can also always make use of your unwanted blankets and towels, and if you wish to donate food it will be used, though we like to keep to a regular diet for the strays, who may have dietary problems.

About Woodlands Farm Strays

Mary and Alan Bull have been at Woodlands Farm Kennels for 22 years, and are still primarily a boarding kennel and cattery, for details, see our kennel's web site:
www.woodlandsfarmkennels.co.uk
We have been caring for the stray dogs that have been picked up by our local dog wardens, since the service was introduced, and have also been finding homes for the dogs that have not been claimed for some years now.

At first, this was just a few dogs, and if we had not been able to find a new home, in a reasonable time, we were able to find another rescue with space to take dogs on and find a home in another area.  Unfortunately the number of strays dogs not reclaimed has increased, other rescues are frequently full as well. At the same time the number of home offers has reduced.

Our charity was set up originally to provide funding for vaccinations and neutering of dogs and spaying of bitches. This was in the hope that this would make them more appealing to new owners, as it had become so much more difficult to find appropriate homes for the masses of dogs in rescue all over the country.

Our boarding kennels subsidise the daily care of the strays, so their keneling costs, food, and fuel to get them too and fro the vets, or to get out to do home checks is still covered by the income from the kennels.

We are fortunate that we were approached by the West Dorset and Axminster branch of the R.S.P.C.A. with an offer to pay for the vaccination and neutering program, as they do not have a dog rescue in their area. Naturally we gratefully accepted, for more information on their work, do check out their own web site.

Please note that the link to us on their web site is a kind gesture on their part to help us home our dogs. We are not a part of the R.S.P.C.A. nor affiliated to them in any way beyond the generous offer of help we have received from them.

This has left us able to make use of the funds we raise for other necessary surgery; microchips; antibiotics; x-rays; ear and eye drops; wormers; ointments or medication for allergies etc.
We have also bought special foods for seriously under nourished dogs and those with other specific diatary needs, and have also bought the dogs things to make their lives in kennels a little less boring, such as toys and treats.

We have raised funds by running events, or by having a stall at other events. please check our events page for forthcoming events.

OTHER WAYS TO HELP

When we run a fundraising event, one of the things we are very short of is man, and woman power!

It may be that we need help serving teas for an hour, or even to have a few people who would be prepared to make some cakes for these events.

A little of your time is one of the most valuable gifts you can provide.

If you are not able to spare your time, perhaps you could make a donation to our strays charity. Please see our donate page
